In the event of an emergency welcome to earth.
It is all too often and all too consuming but it is in fact the primary drive in almost everyone I have ever met or for that matter ever seen on TV. heard on the radio or read about. It is in most cases the most dreadful part of our daily existence and by far the most mentally challenging and emotionally draining thing that any of us do on a daily basis. And while it eats away at our hearts and minds we willingly succumb to it day after day year after year until death do us part. This horrid thing of which I speak is our Emergency.
We all have them, we all spend the greater part of our existence trying to overcome them, and yet unfortunately so few of our emergencies are ever avoided or surmounted. I think there is a very good explanation for this. Perhaps it is because we have been conditioned to think every problem is a big problem and therefore it must be in dire need of our immediate attention. If we could all take a moment to step back and look at what aggravates us and therefore causes us to act out angrily against others I think we might find that in all honesty we have been taught to over react to almost everything in life that is unimportant and therefore we have little time to give proper thought and consideration to those things in life which merit our true devotion.
I would like you all to understand why these thoughts have suddenly become so profound for me.
I am certainly no different than any of you and I have allowed myself to be overwhelmed by the trivial and meaningless hurdles in life as well. But over the past few years I have lost several people very dear to me and in every case that I have had the opportunity to speak with them before they died there thoughts were all the same. The only things left in the end of there journey which meant anything at all to them was to let there loved ones know how important they were to them and to ask God for forgiveness for there mistakes in life . I can also assure you that if they were given one more day here on earth not one of them would have even considered getting upset because the grass had still not been mowed to match the neighbors yard or that the cable had gone out again and they were stuck talking to an automated system for forty-five minutes . They would not have yelled at there child for standing in front of the TV. to ask if there new dress was pretty during the big game or scowled in disgust at there spouse for doing for the millionth time one of those quirky irritating things that in all honesty probably caused them to fall in love with that person to begin with. No, I am sure that what every one of them would have done is hug someone dear to them, tell someone they were proud of them, shared something of themselves that was deep and personal and meaningful or to give with every ounce of there being the full force of the love that they had inside and the gratitude they had for having the opportunity to share it with another human soul.
While we all fall victim to the grind and discomfort of our daily routine we become something far less than that which we are capable of being and that is the true emergency . we are all capable of greatness, we can all find some small way to deliver hope to a person who has run short on there own supply and in doing so we can become exactly what we so desire to be …..Worthy….
Worthy of those feelings and gestures of love and kindness being returned willingly to you from someone else.
This is by far the greatest gift and truest sign of a successful journey through life that I can imagine And I for one intend to start addressing my emergency right away.
